Today, I want to share a personal story that highlights the incredible power of positive communication and how a simple shift in mindset can turn a task we’re dreading into an unexpectedly great experience. It’s a reminder of why positivity and good communication matter, not just in our professional lives but in everyday moments too.

Ryan Abramson: You Are In Violation!

I recently received a not-so-pleasant letter from my condo association: "Ryan Abramson, You are in Violation!". It turns out that the ceiling of my condo porch needed a fresh coat of paint, and they were giving me a "friendly" reminder (if we can call it that) to get the job done—or else they’d start fining me every day until I did. Now, if you know me, you know I’m not exactly a DIY enthusiast. My strengths are in communication and creativity, not wielding a paintbrush. But with this letter in hand, I realized it was time to take action.

After putting it off for months, I decided to make the best of the situation. I headed to Home Depot, list in hand. I knew I'd need a few essentials: paint, brushes, a roller, a paint tray, and a drop cloth. As I navigated the aisles, I felt out of my element. But as soon as I connected with one of the associates, everything shifted. I expected him to roll his eyes at my lack of DIY knowledge, but instead, he welcomed my questions with kindness and encouragement. “You know,” he said, “doing it yourself will save you around $160. Plus, there’s something satisfying about handling it on your own.”

It was a reminder that good communication and kindness from others can make all the difference. That quick exchange boosted my confidence and gave me the motivation I needed to get the job done.

Embracing Positivity: "DIY Friday" in Full Swing

With supplies in hand, I was ready to tackle my project, which I quickly dubbed "DIY Friday." I decided that if I was going to spend my day painting, I was going to make it fun. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear, and as I laid out my drop cloth and set up my paint tray, I decided to approach this project with a positive mindset. I realized that turning a mundane chore into something enjoyable can be as simple as shifting your attitude. Enter TikTok: @ryanabramson62
